Downregulation and upregulation of these receptors are determined by receptor numbers rather than binding affinity.

When I referenced the withdrawal syndrome, I meant to portray a way for kindling during withdrawal episodes to produce progressively intense and protracted discontinuation effects. If this is accurate, then it is imperative to follow a discontinuation protocol to minimize the occurrence of the withdrawal syndrome from the very first drug discontinuation.
