In my case I withdrew escitalopram rather too quickly. Although I had no major physical or psychological ill effects, I believe my receptors "over-shot the mark" and became supersensitive as you suggested earlier.

A couple of weeks later the doc gave me sertraline and perhaps raised the dose a little too quickly after a week. The result of this sudden serotonin overload was a pretty horrific bout of akathisia and then rebound depression.

Could it even have been a depression caused by excess serotonin? I've read that such a thing exists and it would explain why other serotonergics haven't helped at all and 5-HTP makes me worse.
