Husbands Suggestion of Thread On Nardil for me

Posted by Phillipa on April 17, 2008, at 12:55:07

Had a discussion with husband and our experiences with talking of pdocs about nardil for me. He my husband said it's important for you to know that this city is over 2million people conservatively speaking. And all the pdocs and therapists here that we have seen and where my current one is have looked at us like what century are you in we don't use MAOI's where did you ever hear of using one? So of course we had to bring up the internet at which point they pointed out that there is a lot of faulty info on the internet. Now I know a lot of posters have had wonderful results on this med and that is wonderful but it is not my pdocs choice or any I have seen. Lately the physical pain of post op surgery back and neck and legs has been of more concern as well as the incredible increase of my hasimotos thyroiditis from l.08 to l5. So at this point priority number one is to stabalize it as so many psychiatric symtoms accompany it. When at my pdocs in another city she saved a brochure she received from the pharmacology dept of that large hospital. As have mentioned before I lost sense of taste and smell four years ago. This is very emotionally hurtful to me and tears accompany dinner for that loss. Well the brochure lists a number of meds that could be responsible. This brochure is six pages long. So I will give only headings of some med categories and some used in psychiatry.First a number of antibiotics, anticonvulsants including lamictal, topamax, carbamazepine, and Phenytoin. Antidepressants include amitriptyline, fluoxetine, selegiline, sertraline. Antifungals, Antihyperlipidemic, antihypertensives, and cardiac meds, antiparkinsons some, antithyroid,Benzos lorazapam,Flurazepam,Triazolam, Muscle relaxants, cancer some of the meds, miscellaneous multiple some:allopurinol, lithium, and opiates. Some cause distortions in taste not loss. I thought it was very kind of the pdoc to save it for me and thought I'd share. Maybe that is why lamictal caused the spitting for me. Anyway this is in no means anti-med just research. I have been searching for what may have caused mine for four years.Love Phillipa any feedback greatly appreciated.Per sheet most have potential to alter taste we don't know to what degree per brochure.
