In reply to Husbands Suggestion of Thread On Nardil for me, posted by Phillipa on April 17, 2008, at 12:55:07
I'm not sure from your post if you are asking for input on your husband's suggestion of a tread on Nardil or input on what has caused your lack of taste.
Due to some serious side effects I will be off Nardil. If not for the one my pdoc and I considered dangerous I would still be on it. Your husband pointed out that in a city of two million every doctor and specialist you have seen has looked upon MAOI's as archaic.
On the flip side, in a very small city of 40,000, the pdocs here are very pro MAOI for treatment resistant depression. My pdoc has many on Parnate, although I was his only one on Nardil. For some reason Parnate seems to be the choice when prescribing a MAOI.
I wonder why the discrepancy? I don't get it. You would think in a city as large as yours there would be many psychiatrists who are versed in other options available to patients than SSRI's and SNRI's and have prescribed MAOI's and also other meds in various cocktails to many. My pdoc is always interested when I tell him things I've learned on the net. It was his suggestion that I try MAOI's.
If your thread is about your loss of smell and taste I don't have any experience in that area. Have your doctors been able to give any input as to why that happened and if it can be reversed? I can well understand how you would be devastated at the loss of two important senses.
