In reply to Is there ever a normal after a BP diagnosis?, posted by fluffy on November 10, 2002, at 11:47:23
Hi Katy,
Sorry it took me so long to respond back to you. I'm glad I could be of help to you to understand what you are going through. That is definitely the first step to getting better. It took me 6 years to realize it, ugh!
Unfortunately, I can't really give you an answer to your question, I've often wondered myself (if there is a normal after the diagnosis). I was only diagnosed 6 months ago, but I can tell you it does get better. For one thing, once the anxiety gets under control (mood stabilizers have worked great for me for this), your thinking gets clearer and you will be able to look back at your life and see the mood disorder better and how it affected your life. I used to be the same as you just wondering if the anxiety was causing it all. Some of my friends have anxiety though just like I do, but they don't have the extreme ups and downs like I do.
I'm still working on getting my meds right and that is my main focus at this time. Once I achieve that, I really do believe there will be a normal. Yeah, we may still have a little more extreme moods, but that just makes us more interest, right? That's the way I choose to look at it anyway : )
Good luck with finding that right combo and feel free to write to me if you want to talk about anything.
