hmmm, good questions. I don't know about Paxil. Somone else probably does. If you look above (do a search on pms or and pmdd) I have related my experience with progesterone (yam derived-so called 'natural' because there is no patent) and had bad results with progestin. SSRI are in vogue for pms. Prozac,serphim (sp) can be manic triggering for bipolar 2 (it does for me) It is tough with out a knowledgeable evaluation by an openmided doc. Dr. Lee and Dr Northrup both have also written books. Madison Pharmacy in Madison Wisconsin is where I first got my sustained released progesterone tables. Before that I tried a shot, troche (under tongue tablets)It works best absorbed through skin, thats probably why the suppository was suggested. Progesterone is commonly able to be compounded by a pharmacy. It made an INCREDIBLE difference for my mood. Theory at that time was pump up the progesterone and it restarts the production, eventually evening everthing out...I don't know if that happened or whether I started perimenopause....Definately something to address for women with mood issues but not necessarily the anwer or quick fix....

I recently read "Once a Month" by Katharina Dalton and she recommends progesterone suppositories. She says that it has to be natural progesterone and not progestrogen.
