... my therapy it is more complex than just dealing with being alone at night. It's escaping out of unpleasant situations (in-laws) and feeling in control.
We are trying a strategy of making a box to put negative emotions into until there is time to deak with them. I thought of a lobster trap - stuff gets in, but cab't get out. I have a wooden box on my desk and I write the negative emotions I experiennce during the day onpieces of paper and put them in the box. Then the emotional charge is gone.
I deal with the feelings later on in the day when I am calmer.
