I recently quit eating dairy and also began plugging my food into a diet analyzer (such as Fitday) and found I'm getting more calcium than I thought in my diet. And that's after I cut out the cheese. So I shudder to think how much calcium I was getting before. When I thought I was balancing it with enough magnesium, I probably wasn't.
I have taken too much magnesium in the past. I can't remember quite what the symptoms were, but I clearly felt out of whack. (Cleared up by adding calcium.)
