Hi Chloe,

I read your post about ECT. I never had ECT, so I do not have any *personal* experiences to share about it. The only person I knew personally who had ECT was my grandma. She was given multiple ECT treatments in the hospital back in the 60's. Reconstructing what went on, based on my family's interpretation of events, it seems that she was suffering from a depressive episode and got scripted some heavy-duty amphetamines (with no mood stabilizers or antipsychotics, etc.). It seems that she became psychotic and started having delusions about my grandfather (and others) trying to kill her, etc. Well, things deteriorated and she flipped out and ran away. My Mom/grandpa/Uncle found her and brought her in for evaluation and she was hospitalized and given ECT. She improved rapidly and was released. She never had any more episodes that I am aware of. I don't know for sure if she discharged with any meds or not. We went to their house for Christmas later that year (1968), and she seemed OK to me. I wouldn't be afraid of it. If I was feeling really awful it wouldn't scare me any. I have been through general anesthesia and surgery already. I hope you feel better soon.

Mitch
