Now go celebrate with, well...you know what to celebrate with. Yum... :)

you're doing so well! and it's -- what's the opposite of a vicious circle? a happy circle?

you feel good, you do the footwork you need to do, and then that makes you feel even better. you deserve it. you worked hard to get to where you are.

Hi Fallsfall,

Keep being busy doing great stuff. How wonderful to have positive things to talk about in therapy. My therapist would find that a very pleasant surprise. I'll bet yours isn't surprised at all- he knew you could do it.

Fantastic!

Sounds like you're getting the qualifications they require, you love the place and the work, and are qualified up to those last credentials, what more could they ask for? I hope you get it!
When will you know?

Good luck!

Thank you all for your good wishes. The woman I work with who is on the search committee said that I did "very well" in the interview and that the chair of the committee had never seen such an honest interview. The board of trustees is meeting tonight and I expect that the search committee will give their report. There was also a good candidate (with a degree) who interviewed last week.

Yesterday I went to Vocational Rehabilitation to go over some testing I had done. I looked through job descriptions based on the results of the testing and found an occupation that sounds really interesting and just up my alley (Operations Research Analyst). I need to do more research about schooling and where the jobs are. So we were talking in therapy about this. And talking about how it seemed worth looking into. It is much more like what I used to do (and the real question is whether it is *different* enough from what I used to do).

So I said "The real question is what will I say if they offer me the job [before I have a chance to do the research on this other path]?"
Him: That is easy to answer
I raised my eyebrows and he said quickly
Him: You take the job.
This is the man who never expresses an opinion on anything. Who never is directive...
Me: This from "Mr. Never-has-an-opinion"?

A little later he did ask me what I thought the answer should be - and I think I'll take the job. But it was SO funny that he had a strong opinion and actually told me what it was - almost like he thought I was going to ruin everything.

I laughed all the way home.

Thanks for sharing that story. Very cute indeed. Definitely take the job. Being a librarian affords you the opportunity to research the possible new career path while getting paid for your new position at the library!! (awkward sentence alert)

I love it when our T's express an opinion from the seat of their pants without thinking about it first. He cares so much about you!

I have my fingers and toes crossed.

(Dang it! I hate that darned Microsoft key on the right side of the keyboard. It's too close to the shift key, and I often hit that instead, which pulls up some stupid menu which must have a "annoy the snot out of user by erasing everything" function that I happen to "click" by continuing to type before I realize I've pulled up that stupid menu!!!!!!!! I HATE THAT KEY!!!)

Okay, what I was typing before it got erased...I call those moments in therapy "blurt moments". When I do it, it's usually a gut-honest, can't help myself from blurting kind of thing. Sometimes I backpedal and go back to the usual, "what do you think?" stance, but most of the time, I just own up to my reaction and go from there.

Whew! didn't get erased this time...can I rip that key off my keyboard? Any way to disable it?

Good luck, falls!

I don't think I've ever posted to you falls, but I read a lot more than I post, and if I am remember the "previous" you correctly, you have really made leaps and bounds! Even your posting style has changed. I just wanted to mention that. I am not on here a lot, so I notice those changes more I think.

"Blurt moments" I like the term!!

You can pull the key off, but if it leaves a little post sticking up, the post could be as dangerous as the key. You could try to build a little roof over the key so you couldn't press it...

The trustees are interviewing the other guy (the one who already has a degree) tonight.

But I do have some good support among the trustees, or maybe he won't want the job, maybe it doesn't pay enough for him, maybe they'll love me more.

So hard to be patient.

It really is hard to be patient. Distraction works for stuff like this sometimes. But the best thing is that you have done the best you can and really made a case for yourself. No matter what the outcome you should be so proud of yourself. I am!

I think you deserve gourmet ice cream and in several flavors. With toppings. Don't forget the cherry on top. Served in a beautiful bowl with a silver spoon and a flower on your tray.

Wish I was there to share it. :)

Marking time

The trustees liked the degreed guy (and from what I've heard he really would be pretty good). They are checking his references (how long does it take to check references??). They were going to offer him the job and THEN let staff talk to him - but I think that they have been convinced that it makes more sense for us to talk to him before they make him the offer.

I would still love the job. I'm having fun doing the job right now. But they are going to offer it to him (reasonably so). My turn will come. He won't stay long. And by the time he is ready to go, I'll have my MLIS, and I'll be a shoein.

I started my first class for my MLIS last night (first class in 23 years). It went really well. The others in the class are very much like me. It will be fine.

So I'm just waiting, marking time, until they manage to make a decision.

I have a lot of support from the staff and the patrons. I do feel loved there. Even when I don't get the job, I'll still feel loved.

I've been meaning to ask how this was going. You seem to have the greatest attitude about it and your confidence shows. Good for you. I really can see the growth in this(hope that doesn't sound pretentious) that you've had ever since I've been posting.

I'm just now feeling that I could handle going back to work permanently (I freelance)so thanks for the inspiration.
best,

Doesn't seem like marking time to me

In all the important things, it seems like great strides forward. I understand it's hard to wait to hear about the job. But you're going to school, your attitude is great. I am just so impressed.

Thanks all. Credit goes to my therapist. Without him I would be frantically trying to impress the selection committee and the trustees and trying to get a bunch of patrons and volunteers to start a campaign for me.

Staff gets to interview the candidate on Monday night (although the chairs of the selection committee and the trustees will be present, too - to make sure that we behave ourselves and don't scare the candidate away). I spent the whole night "interviewing" - didn't make for great sleep.

Yesterday I needed to reassure two ardent supporters of mine that it will be OK if this other guy gets the job. They are very loyal to me - and that does feel really good.

My turn will come.

Your turn will absolutely come. And you seem to ready for it. It is amazing how things just seem to fall into place sometimes.

I'm sure you will be nice and professional during the interview process. Just remember it is about him, not comparative between you two. Do you have a list of questions? I think you should ask him what his favorite book is. I think it says a lot about a person.

Good luck!
