Thank you all for your good wishes. The woman I work with who is on the search committee said that I did "very well" in the interview and that the chair of the committee had never seen such an honest interview. The board of trustees is meeting tonight and I expect that the search committee will give their report. There was also a good candidate (with a degree) who interviewed last week.
Yesterday I went to Vocational Rehabilitation to go over some testing I had done. I looked through job descriptions based on the results of the testing and found an occupation that sounds really interesting and just up my alley (Operations Research Analyst). I need to do more research about schooling and where the jobs are. So we were talking in therapy about this. And talking about how it seemed worth looking into. It is much more like what I used to do (and the real question is whether it is *different* enough from what I used to do).
So I said "The real question is what will I say if they offer me the job [before I have a chance to do the research on this other path]?"
Him: That is easy to answer
I raised my eyebrows and he said quickly
Him: You take the job.
This is the man who never expresses an opinion on anything. Who never is directive...
Me: This from "Mr. Never-has-an-opinion"?A little later he did ask me what I thought the answer should be - and I think I'll take the job. But it was SO funny that he had a strong opinion and actually told me what it was - almost like he thought I was going to ruin everything.
I laughed all the way home.
