TC, There was a time in my 30's that I wore a size 4 skirt, it was tight but I loved the color and bought it anyway. I also used to pin my skirt and slacks at the waist becasue things would just hang off me. I didn't have to exercise or anything. Many people told me I was too thin but it wasn't anything I even thought about. Just started AD's then and I think my nervous energy kept the weight off plus my youth and higher metabolism.
So twenty years later, everything has changed. Without exercise and I am not there yet, I would be 200 now. I maxed around 195 after a few months on Nardil and that shocked me into doing something physical. It is not very quick nor do my clothes fit anymore, but I can start to see some change in my muscle tone and strength which is very important for me.
You didn't mention your age (here I go again, sorry), but by the time we are in our 40's, we start to lose muscle mass and tone and exercise is the only way to combat this. I was also losing my balance and I think by doing more physical activity, I have better chance to regain and improve this.
Phillipa has a good suggestion with lipo if ther are areas of your body that could be sculpted and who doesn't? Between that and exercise you have a really good chance to get on the road to regaining some of your former physique. The 20 or 30 something body is gone but to be toned and stronger is alot of what we need as we age.
I wouldn't jump into the band procedure as a first choice. Too many risks and poor outcomes unless your MD is tops and has done many, many of these procedures. Ask if you are a candidate for lipo as a first pass procedure. That maybe enough to motivate you to exercise to keep your new shape.

Thanks for the advice! I don't plan on jumping into anything, don't worry about that. I'm very much the procrastinater in all things. I was really just asking here as a way to CONSIDER considering it, if that makes any sense.
I also have trouble with balance, which I know exercise would help. My roadblock is getting started. When not at work, I do absolutely nothing. And that somehow gets addicting. The more I lay around, the more I want to lay around. I usually sleep practically the whole weekend. Then when I actually have something to do, it exhausts me.
I really have no excuse. I'm a member of the fitness center at work. They have everything - exercise machines, weights, classes. I've tried a couple of classes like Pilates and Yoga, and I really liked them, but my work schedule is so erratic sometimes that I just can't seem to keep it up. Oh, and I also have a workout center at my apartment complex! I mean I REALLY have no excuse, other than the addiction to laziness.
I guess I've just got to bite the bullet and start doing something. I've always felt if I could just find a reason to get out of the house, like taking an art class or something, that would be a way to get moving at least.
BTW, I will be 38 next month.

P.S. The only thing about lipo is it would NOT be covered by insurance.

TC, you sound very level headed about this and it seems like you are like me in alot of ways. I weighed myself last night and my weight is back up...so you know what that means, more exercise, less eating. Those are the only two things that can make a difference since I'm not a candidate for surgery.
I too am LAZY and have to force myself to work out, will do anything to avoid it. You are lucky with those work programs though as Pilatesand yoga are the best with some aerobic stuff thrown in. Believe me, it just has to become a priority as much as work is for you.
I used to work with a few people who were so consumed with work and it really didn't matter if your health starts to fail, as it does once we stop doing anything active.
Here I sit typing to you, thinking about how I have to go downstairs and workout. It is the easiest thing to procrastinate about. We don't forget to eat or go to work, it has to become reoutine and the only way for that to happen is by starting to do it and seeing some results which believe me are not immediate.
And you are still a young chick so take advantage of that before you become 50, that came so quickly for me and means that I am fighting an uphill battle becasue now I have more aches and pains to use as an excuse and believe me I do.
Good luck with wahtever you decide to do. Just the fact that you're considering these things is good before you gain more weight. Once I reached 190, I freaked and said, now I have to do something.

Congrats on excercising and you're so right about muscle mass and bones too as now I have osteoporosis as well and the pills cost 85.00 a piece for boniva not covered by my insurance. Stargazer you are smart as only excercise I get is walking and bike and three days now rain. No health club have to be outdoors to excercise . Have been members of gyms but hated every moment of them. And no excercising makes me very tired. Love Phillipa ps yes lipo is self pay. But I hardly eat as no taste and the muscles were cut with tubal ligation and no other choice but the lipo and tummy tuck which thankfully I saved from first marriage.

Its an hour long thing where they give you a training session and show you how to use all the exercise machines. I'm trying to make a change for the better, but its SO HARD! I can't guarantee I won't cancel, I'm absurdly nervous about it and I am very bad about not pushing myself when I need to. So wish me luck.
I took a mini vacation starting this past Wednesday, and tomorrow I go back to work. I promised myself I wouldn't sleep all day every day, but I did at least the majority of the time. But I also read a couple of books, watched a couple of movies, and did at least the most necessary of the house cleaning I'd been putting off. Mainly I got a much needed, VERY nice break from work. My biggest accomplishment was during the whole time I didn't drink. I've been drinking on a pretty much everyday basis for some time now, and I knew I would never get in shape or lose weight unless I cut that out. It drains the willpower out of me faster than anything else, PLUS so many calories its ridiculous. I'm hoping to replace drinking to ease my anxiety or bad mood with exercising. So we'll see how it goes!
I'm so tired of feeling like I'm wasting my life. I just hope I can find the strength (inner as well as physical) to do what it takes.

Good for you TC! Exercise is MUCH better for you than drinking. Save a glass of wine or beer for special events and SIP it. You can do this!

Thanks MidnightBlue! I have to admit I floundered and bought some wine tonight. It was just such a stressful day at work! But this is after almost 3 weeks of no alcohol after a few years of drinking every night. I will keep trying though. Thanks for the support! I definitely need it!
