breakfast - banana oat cake with chocolate frosting (ouch! but so yummy!)
lunch - scrambled eggs with oyster mushrooms and hash browns
dinner - tofu in peanut sauce (with green peas and rice)
no exercise today ... too lazy to leave house after i got back from market! will hike tomorrow and hopefully bike ride on monday.
hoping to get into size 14 by fall ... since i am about a 16/18 now this should be doable ...

That sounds like a very delicious diet, there. At the moment, my weight loss diet is being dictated by a sprained jaw (from TMJ) that is keeping my mouth closed....
Hope your week goes well.

ok ok so i cracked and had a burger today - but i deserved it!
yesterday was a 12 km "hike" with 650 m elevation gain. ok hike is the wrong word - most of the elevation gain was a scramble (hands and feet) over rocks ... great views ... lotta work! and a tricky little trail that was ...
today i was feeling ok, so i thought why not go for about a 30 km bike ride round trip to the beach. downhill all the way home, no problem! get to the beach ok, huff puff up the hills, but i didn't walk my bike once. go have a swim and get some sun. i come back and my chain is JAMMED and i couldn't yank it out. couldn't find a wrench. wound up walking my bike 8 km until i came upon an angel motorcyclist with a wrench and got my chain back on. yaay bikers!
i was so hungry i could eat a horse. so i got my burger. dance class tomorrow (plus the bike ride to and from work). oy!
ps - i find it amusing that i need help loosening my nuts and yanking my chain :D

In reply to fitness - worst idea ever!, posted by octopusprime on May 24, 2004, at 23:36:46
Hi everyone. Well, I was on prozac last year and gained 40 lbs. :( it totally sucked, and got off of it in december and lost about 15 lbs since then. Unfortunately, the depression got so bad that i had to get back on prozac. Tried wellbutrin first, but had way too much anxiety, so prozac it is. I'm no longer depressed, but hungry ALL the time. I want to stuff my face 2 minutes after dinner. I never feel really full-I'm not really hungry right after I eat, but not full. So my pdoc told me to add a little wellbutrin and that's helping wih the appetite issues (I split an XL tab). Does anyone have any ideas to get motivated to exercise? I pay every month but can never get up to go. NO motivation :( help!

hi monu:
do you have somebody to exercise with? making a promise to another person to meet them at the gym is harder to break than a promise to yourself. (the lady at work said she wouldn't have gone to the gym yesterday if i hadn't twisted her arm ... she had promised me a free pass the week before).
is there something at the gym that you like? a class or something that you can make? having a scheduled time helps too (but see my first point about having a deal with a friend to attend)
personally i don't have a gym membership. i mostly exercise by riding my bike to and from work. now motivation is easy to exercise - i have to pay money (for the bus or for parking) if i don't exercise, and i want to save money, so on the bike i go!!! if you live within walking/biking distance of work i highly recommend this plan.
otherwise you could do rewards/treats(i'll see this movie on the weekend if i go 3 times this week, etc) but i would just buy myself the treat anyway so i don't know if this really works.
but teamwork is the best motivator. journaling and keeping yourself honest by writing it down helps too.
good luck!

Thanks for the tips...my boyfriend and I are actually going to go play racquetball tomorrow, so that should be good. Hopefully we can keep that going, and I'll definitely ask some other friends. Thanks again. Take care!

I'm still doing yoga, although not consistently. But I'm taking my gyn. doc's advice. I'm trying to park farther away than I normally would. Forced exercise. It's a start...

i read on the site that some people say "where have you been all my life" when they first go to yoga ... i definitely had that feeling. best thing i did for myself all week!

I found a great yoga studio a couple of months back and I spooked myself right out of going there. I hung in for 2 1/2 months, made a lot of progress, then decided it was too far, too expensive, too inconvenient (a familiar mantra but not recommended for meditation). Just when I find something that works for me and that I can actually *do*, I run away as fast as I can. Maybe I need to give it another try.

hi partlycloudy:
cost and travel time are serious considerations for any fitness regime. don't beat yourself up. i probably would have quit too in your situation.
i was lucky that there is a yoga studio 10 blocks from my apt that offers free classes once a week. easy to get to and very motivating!

hey gg -
i'm not totally up on all the different types of yoga either.
wikipedia has an interesting description:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hatha_yoga
although this page doesn't really explain what hatha yoga looks like.the only other yoga class i had taken was at the y about 5 years ago. this one felt very different.
less emphasis on chanting. many many sun salute postures. the postures were chained together with flowing movements, which was different than my last experience and i liked it very much. there was some repetition of the chained movements when going from side to side (so three postures on one side, then rest to a comfortable posture, then three on the other side, etc)
not too many difficult postures. not a lot of funky balance required. (maybe because it was drop in targeted at beginners? who knows)
anyway interesting experience and i will be attending again this week.

Yoga is a really good way of keeping fit. I have been looking for yoga classes in my area. Found some, now its all a matter of actually getting off my butt and doing it. I went to one and found it kinda boring, but maybe it was the wrong clas. I've been to classes before where its really fun.

There's a class in my town where they raise the tempature and make you sweat. It's so hot that the muscles just relax into the pose. I haven't done it yet but I might.
I am constantly sweating all the time anyway.
Let's just take it up a couple of notches.
It's called menopause.....

Oh that sounds so hard. Plain yoga is difficult enough! It depends on the class, but I am usually sweating by the end!

Me, too. My dad was a sweat-er. It seems I just have to THINK hard and I sweat. None of that namby-pamby glowing stuff, either. Just rivers of attractive perspiration that comes from the slightest exertion. I'm so self conscious about it that I finally decided to join an all-woman gym. Not that they wouldn't notice the sweat, but I'm not as worried about grossing someone out.
And unfortunately, I chose to live in the WRONG place; Florida. Thank heaven for central air conditioning.

I am glad to see I am in good sweating company.
Do you take an electrolite drink?
I use Alacer electro Mix.
Loosing lots of fluids can unbalance the delicate balance. I use it and it seems to help my leg cramps.

No, I drink lots of water and when I crave salt, I eat crackers (my downfall). I LOVE salty crunchy things.
(Don't remember how old you are, but) Do you remember the original Star Trek episode with the salt vampire monster who used to be McCoy's old girlfriend? She would turn into this thing with a vacuum cleaner for a face, suckers on the ends of her fingers, and would reduce her victims to a pile of what looked like sand. Of course, McCoy still loved her, what a hero.
That's what I feel like.

Hi all,
I teach Hot Yoga and love it. It's one of the most challenging things you'll ever do. Very intense, but extremely rewarding. It can totally reshape the body making the body strong and grounded. I highly recommend it.
