I am just now getting to the point in my treatment where I can make a serious effort in improving taking care of my body better.
I have decided not to get on my bathroom scale.
I am eating wiser food choices, and don't go down the snack food aisle in the grocery store anymore. *SIGH*Exercise has always been very hard for me because I have never enjoyed it. When I was a little'un I would get migraines and stomach aches and didn't get good at anything, so now my idea of feeling good involves curling up on a sofa with a good book and a cuppa tea.
That's why I'm trying yoga, and taking up bellydance again.
How are everyone else's efforts going?

You are wise, don't worry about weight, just focus on healthy choices. I lost some weight just from cutting out all the junk food and sugar. Plus I feel physically better. I'm sleeping well, and my stress level is down. Did you notice all the junk food is in the center aisles, and the real food is around the perimeter? At least that's how my store is laid out. It makes it easy, I just steer the cart around the perimeter. I only venture inward to pick up canned fruit (my worst dietary vice at this point) and dehydrated soup.
I don't have an exercise habit now at all. I've had phases of enjoying different things, but now there's nothing. Never tried bellydance, but I went to an israeli folk dance class that was fun. I couldn't keep up though, I'm pretty dense about learning dance steps. Yoga is wonderful, but I moved away from my yoga studio and haven't found a new one. Every now and then I'll do a little yoga at home, but I really need the structure of a class to do much.

I took me about 2 years to find a yoga studio I like after I moved from "up north". I had a video to practice with but I couldn't keep up the pace and it frustrated me. So I started trying different studios (it took me MONTHS to talk myself into going into just one of them! I was paralysed by having zero self confidence) and now I found one that suits me. I try to fit it in between doctor and T appointments.
I don't do much yoga at home, except to make my husband feel inflexible :)
Dancing takes a little more research. For example, I didn't want to get sucked into a dance ensemble or anything, just wanted to have fun and learn something new. Sometimes the local Y will have classes to drop in on.

Despite the fact that yoga always makes me feel better, I just always find something else to do: sleep, sleep, work on homework, just veg, etc. Perhaps a class would work for me. Something with a financial committment...?
I'm the opposite. I have a really great tape from Yoga Zone: Intro. to Yoga. I tried a class at the local gym, but I wasn't impressed with the instructor. She just talked you through the poses, without much on how they should feel and what the dynamics are in the poses.
Good luck,
gg

Sorry, gotta do it. Call it compulsive...
It's hard to teach something physical. Many instructors get into that postition because it is so easy for them to do it themselves -- so they have no idea how to teach it to someone for whom it's harder. (That's why I was such a good instructor -- it wasn't easy for me, and I had to think about what I was doing. That meant that I could talk someone else through it.) Just look at those instructors with pity in your heart, for they are limited by their own talent. {{sigh}} poor things!
And I have a Pilates tape I haven't really had a chance to work with, and just found my hula hoop again. If you want a nice, sexy waist -- Hula Hoop! (Cross my heart -- try it sometime!)
This is the end of the thread.
