I've gained weight over the years. It may be from my meds, I don't know. I take Celexa, Prozac, Risperdal and propranolol as needed. I think I've gained about 20 pounds in 5 years.
My plan is to eat as little as I can, but it is hard.
I plan on taking some CLA, hoodia, green tea caffeine pills and nicotine in the form of gum to suppress my appetite and help me lose weight.
I also plan on walking 30 mins each day.
I should count calories and eat about 1200 kcal/day.
What do you think of my plan?

I don't know about the suppliments. A new study showed that vinegar helped with weight loss. Lifting weights helps if you build muscle because muscle is active tissue which requires calories to maintain even at rest. So I would add weight work to your routine.
Good luck. It's hard work. 1200 calories is really low. They say small meals (500 calories) eaten through out the day are best. It keeps your metabolism working and is not enough for your body to story any left over as fat.

Make sure you get enough protein. Do you eat meat, chicken, fish?
1200 calories per day, I think, is to low, esp. if you are walking.

~~~ Questionable as to if vasocontriction is more pronounced in use by folks who don't have a history of tobacco use. Its use for smoking cessation should probably be its only use, IMO.
I remember your past posts on the Eating board and I hazzard to give much input on your talk of weight loss and such as it makes me feel a bit like enabling, but well, here I am doing it anyway....
If you're concerned over safety, my hope is you realistically look at things and REALLY take stock and consider what it is you're doing and why...
Thanks for the advice Glydin.
I really have gained weight. My BMI is just barely in the overweight range now.
I need to lose some weight.
I'm wondering if prescription appetite suppressants will help me? How can I get a doctor to give me some? Does anyone know how I can get them myself? (Babblemail me).
OK, I don't know much about meds. Can someone tell me which one of these will kill my appetite and not harm me? I am thinking of getting them myself.
I am thinking of somehow finding a way to get phentermine. Will that work? Can someone babblemail me some online pharmacies that are reputable?
From wikipedia:
Numerous pharmaceutical compounds are marketed as appetite suppressants.
The following drugs listed as "centrally acting antiobesity preparations" by ATC:[1]
* Phentermine (Fastin, Adipex, Ionamin and others)
* Diethylpropion (Tenuate)
* Sibutramine (Meridia, Reductil)
* Rimonabant (Acomplia)The following are listed as appetite depressants by MeSH.[2]
* benfluorex
* butenolide
* diethylpropion
* FG 7142
* norpseudoephedrine
* phenmetrazine
* phentermine
* phenylpropanolamine
* pyroglutamyl-histidyl-glycine
* sibutramineOther compounds marked as appetite suppressants include:
* Phendimetrazine (Prelu-2, Bontril)
* Benzphetamine (Didrex)
* Oxyntomodulin
* Methylphenidate (Concerta) (Ritalin)
* Phenylethylamine (Trimspa
Meds can make you gain weight. it's only rubbish doctors who say they don't. Meds alter your hormone balance. Hormones can make you gain or lose weight.Your plan sounds like a crash diet to me. Sounds like a good way to end up in Adrenal fatigue. It's not a good idea, but you can try it out and see if it works for you. I'm not one to preach a healthy lifestyle.
Yeah, you're right. I have to think logically about things. It's just sometimes I can't stand my fat, but I need to think long term. Can I take those appetite suppressing drugs for life? No. If I can't do it for life, I'm bound to regain the weight. The most important part of weight loss is maintaining.
I've decided not to buy prescription drugs illegally. Sorry if I was uncivil. I won't use this site to get prescription drugs, even with Babblemail. They are too expensive anyways. I need to stop wasting my money.
~~~ Excellent! I'm very pleased and proud of you for that thinking.

~~~ I'm glad to read that also. I'm a work in progress - and always will be - with my goal of a healthy lifestyle and I can tell you, it can make alot of things better overall.
Focusing on making positive changes that are long-standing as opposed to quick nonlong-standing changes, with more pitfalls than they're worth, is good in and of itself for me. Good Luck to you.
What doses do you take? Every drug in your combo is likely to cause weight gain, except propranolol.
Prozac boosts both Celexa and Risperdal blood levels; the latter with +75% on average (http://journals.lww.com/psychopharmacology/Abstract/2002/08000/Inhibition_of_Risperidone_Metabolism_by_Fluoxetine.14.aspx). Your Risperdal dose shouldn't be higher than 3,5mg, preferably lower, to avoid extrapyramidal side-effects.
I take 40 mg Prozac, 40 mg Celexa, 1 mg Risperdal (now reduced to 0.75 mg though), 40 mg propranolol prn and 0.5 mg Risperdal prn.
OK, you're good with the Risperdal then, I'm relieved.
The Prozac-Celexa thing is a bit of an odd combination though, I think. Michael Jackson was on two SSRIs (Paxil and Zoloft), but I haven't heard of anyone else taking two SSRIs and both at therapeutic doses. Plus, Prozac inhibits Celexa's metabolism, so you're bound to have supra-therapeutic blood levels of Celexa.
Now, Celexa is a bit more likely than some other SSRIs to cause weight gain, since it does have some affinity for the histamine receptor. Certainly with your blood levels, it may cause significant weight gain.
Prozac may cause weight gain through 5HT2C-antagonism, but there have been studies showing Prozac to actually promote weight LOSS at high doses (60mg or up). This may only be a short-term effect though. You could try and cut down on the Celexa while going up with the Prozac. You never know what happens.
Sometimes SSRI-induced weight gain has been countered by adding bupropion (Wellbutrin). Bupropion's metabolism is not inhibited by Prozac, but it does inhibit 2D6 itself, just as Prozac, so that would make Celexa and Risperdal's levels go through the roof even more.
I think the Celexa is for my depression, which I don't have anymore and the Prozac is for my bulimia, which I also don't have anymore. The pharmacist thought it was a weird combo too. I seen to be doing OK on it though.
I've taken Wellbutrin before, but pdoc stopped it because of my bulimia. She was really worried I would have a seizure.
Interesting idea about increasing Prozac and going down on the Celexa. Maybe I'll bring it up next week.
This is the end of the thread.
