I guess that was the trouble with American Manufacturing. It got too good.

Cars weren't cheap. But you brought a new one and you looked after it. And then you gave it to your kid as their first car however many years later...

Jeans... I'm talking the heavy duty cotton ones. Not quite the ones you needed to shrink-fit yourself, in the bathtub (I'm not that old) but the good old pre-shrunk 501s. They lasted a while, yeah? You didn't need to buy a new pair in the latest style every season because the elasticity pooped-out and they went saggy in all the wrong places...

THough... It might be true that you were still wearing them in same time next year...

I remember a new pair of Doc Martin boots (back when the leather was thicker and more durable) would take a good 6 months or so to wear in... Now... They start to wear out in maybe double that...

Things were expensive. But things were an investment.

Even things like sweatshirts and the like...

I remember looking at the Duke store. You know, hoodies and the like. I remember the most expensive sweats. They were really high quality really thick cotton. I mean... You could wash and wash and wash and wash and wash and I'm sure that you would never wear out those sweats in your lifetime...

I didn't buy the most expensive. I brought a distinctly mid-range. And it's still good. And since I've brought I don't know how many 'regular hoodies' from stores and they have worn bare (elbows) or started freying at the cuffs after more like 3 or 4 or 5 years.

All the rubbish....
