unfortunately i cannot view the second link you posted in this country.

i don't know a great deal about vaccums. i suppose i am thinking of lawns. when the grounds keepers mow the lawns on their ride on mowers up one way and down the other and you get lines on the field.

otherwise... we used to have a shag pile carpet when i was a kid in one of the rooms of the house. i remember i used to pet it to get the free end lying neat. sometimes i used to braid it. which drove my mother nuts.

more recently i have had only nylon carpets with very tight and flat pile so the groomed look isn't an option. it's just about vaccuming the dust and road soot etc off of it. i suppose it is cleaner. but it doesn't feel so nice to walk on. quality underlay would help.

i have a bagless vaccum. i like that. i like to see it picking up the dust when i vaccum. makes me feel like there is a point to it -- since it can't / won't look groomed, i suppose.

do you think it is degrading the quality of the carpet? beating it? you are very clean and tidy vaccuming ever few days. i try and vaccum weekly, but, you know... i don't suppose that i do...
