It does seem unfair to be placed in that position. Not everyone can put resentment aside. If a daughter under those circumstances cannot lend support she should feel no guilt. It is unlikely that her parent will even show any gratitude. It is a choice, not a duty. I can appreciate how difficult a choice it would be for you both. I hope I did not imply that it is something you must or should do for a parent.
