I wish that Ms. Lott had answered your post, I'm not sure why she didn't - maybe you posted the same time she did, so she missed it.
I would think that it doesn't matter if the patient is a man or woman. That most of therapy is the same for both. At least transference should be the same for both.
What you describe sounds, to me, like transference. I find that when my reactions seem extreme considering the situation, that it is usually transference. I would suggest that you talk to your doctor and tell him how you are feeling - ask him if you are understanding how he is feeling correctly. It is embarrassing to ask this, but I have found that it really does help to find out what the other person's view of the interchange is.
