Karen,
I know you know that these things take a really long time to finally put into words...a really long time! Talk shows aside, this is really difficult stuff, not a casual conversation.
I want to gently ask, are you sure this is a good fit for you? I know you really like him, but maybe he doesn't have the experience working with trauma victims you need. If there are only a few years between you, he can't have been practicing that long.
My Therapist has been doing this for more than 20 years, and I think that is why we can keep moving forward, slowly, very slowly. He isn't perfect but I think he really gets the safety and support part.
If you think it is a good fit, than I think you just have to give yourself a lot of time and space. Making changes when you are going through something this heavy is really difficult and you are currently dealing with semester hang-over on top of it all. Hang in there. The tide always turns.
BTW -- I didn't know you were even suppose to dust the top of doors!! I'm lucky to get the cobwebs down twice a year. We just tell people they are left over Halloween decorations. :) Don't even get me started about the laundry...
My new favorite CW song: "me and my husband, we need a wife!"
