In reply to Questionnaire for rating your therapist..., posted by IsoM on December 31, 2002, at 22:49:01
I answered five yes, but most of those five were a pretty tentative yes. That gave my therapist a reasonably good rating, though they said I should discuss my concerns with him (which I have). I think they touched on a lot of good points, but they missed a lot too. I'm well aware of my therapist's weaknesses and they mostly fall outside of the questions asked. That makes sense, because most of my therapist's weaknesses are based on his human nature, not his training. And it would be tough to come up with a questionnaire rating human frailties. :) But he is able to listen to my concerns and incorporate my feedback into his future actions. That's one heck of a strength.
I've more or less come to terms with the idea of his weaknesses, and they are offset by some pretty decent strengths. But... sometimes I do wonder whether things progress because of his degree of expertise and intiative or in spite of them. Oh well, no matter. They are progressing. :)
Despite all I've read, therapy ends up being as much a mystery to me as I am a mystery to me. Maybe that's why it works.
