Oh Shar, I'm so sorry about your collie. That's an awful decision to have to make, even when you know you're doing it out of love and in the best interests of your friend.
Collies were my childhood breed, and that's the rescue group I signed up to adopt from.
I had a couple of dogs like Scruffles in my life. One especially. I fully intend to join her wherever she is, if there's any sort of afterlife at all. I apologize to my human family :), but they'll know where to find me.
I so admire your work with hospice, Shar. It shows so much strength and compassion. I'm so comfortable with death that it kind of shocks people. But I don't think I'll ever get to where I can tolerate the *loss*. You have my respect for confronting that to help others.
