In reply to Supplements for brain fog?, posted by KaraS on June 23, 2004, at 23:06:51
> There are so many supplements out there that speed you up and make you jittery but do nothing to actually wake up your brain. I can be so energized from them but still have terrible brain fog. Anyone have any recommendations? I'm thinking that the brain fog probably won't go away until I've gotten the depression under control but I'm hoping that someone can tell me about a supplement that can prove me wrong.
Possible supplements that may have a slightly or moderately beneficial effect on cognitive function:
Ginkgo Biloba (of course) (but not all that helpful from my experience)
SAMe
NADH
Choline; lecithin; DMAE; acetyl-l-carnitine: (each may supposedly increase CNS cholinergic transmission, which is important in cognition)
Fish oil/omega-3 fatty acids
Phosphatidyl (sp?) serine
Phenylalanine; tyrosine (may be stimulating, however)
Gotu Kola
Bacopa
Schizandra berries (sp.?)
Rhodiola
Rosemary
Certain essential oils (used in aromatherapy), such as (according to aromatherapists) those of basil, lemon, rosemary, clary sage, and probably a host of others.
