I get Lamictal name-brand because I appealed to the insurance company stating that I had tried two different generics that I did not respond to adequately. Teva was better than Mylan. When I switched to Teva from Lamictal, it may have taken as long as a week to relapse. I relapsed more quickly with Mylan. If you can't find another generic that works, and are prevented from taking the Lamictal name brand, I would consider taking Teva, but increasing the dosage.

I was on Reddit the other day in bipolar group and someone was PROMOTING taking folic acid with Lamictal. Said it helped their cognitive side effects. Lots of up votes like oh wow I'm gonna try. Well sure it'll help side effects if it makes the drug ineffective.

Interesting. I found Teva and brand name to be comparable but have similiar, almost intolerable side effects (cognition, sleep, muscle spasms, etc) But the mylan (or white) brand those symptoms disappear but BAM did I become suicidally depressed and up and down a week after the switch. It took me a while to figure out what was wrong with me. When I suggested it to my pdoc he said it was impossible.

Anywho my new doctor (a nurse practitioner fresh off the truck) said I should add deplin for my lamictal side effects. I sent him an email mentioning the study about folate interfering and he has ignored it.

I was fully planning on increasing lamictal for mood with the deplin but I'm on hold now.
