I feel magnesium (oxide or any other type) works well for mild depression, for a severe depression and/or anxiety it's not strong enough. I've tried dosages of 1250 mg/p/day for months.
Best treatment for depression/anxiety in my opinion is high dose Seroquel (1.000 mg/p/day). That certainly did the trick, but made me sleep for hours & caused weight gain (what doesn't?!)...
Just my 2 cents.
