bxbx19,
I just wanted to post real quickly to welcome you to Psycho-Babble. I hope that you'll get some helpful responses to the questions that you posed about magnesium.
Magnesium is something that I did personally try several years back (I think it was magnesium oxide, which I understand isn't the most bioavailable form of magnesium), and I don't remember much about my experience with it other than that it seemed to help a bit with some agitation that I was experiencing, possibly from the lithium carbonate I was taking at the time. Unfortunately, I don't recall whether its effects wore off in less than 24 hours or if I tried dosing the supplement twice a day.
I will say that finding the best dose (and dosing schedule, if it applies) of a supplement for you sometimes takes some experimentation, so it might not be a bad idea to try taking half of your magnesium in the morning and the rest of it in the afternoon, as you were asking about. I can't say for sure that you'll feel any different with divided doses, but it seems doubtful that you'd have anything to lose from trying it.
Good luck with everything,
