2mg is definitely way too high as a starting dose. For a person with no opioid tolerance, 2mg of buprenorphine can actually be dangerous! Its potential for respiratory depression is smaller than that of other opioids, but that doesn't mean it is safe to take in large quantities.
When I started it, I took 0.2mg for a couple of days, then 0.4mg, then 0.8mg, etc. Even then I did get a drugged feeling as larry said.
It may actually be possible that there was some potential for mood improvement, but you didn't notice it because side effects overweighed it. It's also possible that it would take a day or two until mood improvement begins to show up.
