Ambien works for me but there t=are many for whom it's more than just a sleeptime experience!! I had an allergic reaction to Lunesta (hives) and Remeron did nothing for me. I *so* wanted to dream about Abe Lincoln and beavers, too! Trazodone turned me into a 48-hour zombie, and Klonopin didn't induce any sleep at all. I think that it takes a whole lot of trying on our part until we find what works. I've been on the same dose of Ambien (10mg) for 2+ years, so hopefully it's just a matter of finding the right medication? Having a quieted mind is the most important thing to me when trying to find sleep. Then comes comfort, temperature, and sound to my liking. I have used a "white noise" generator machine which can be very soothing and distracting.
I do not have much of a problem sleeping while traveling, because I'm not thinking about what I haven't accomplished during the day (I suppose).
Keep trying and working with your (new) doctor. Good luck.

Then I was using it for about 3 months at 200mg/day for various crazinesses related to PTSD. worked for both. unfortunate side effect was BAD munchies. gained plenty of weight on that one. about 10% of my body weight. yuck!
