You can only be hospitalized against your will if you are a danger to yourself or others, or if you are judged unable to take care of yourself. I believe that 72 hours is the longest you can be held. After that you get to go before a judge. (Someone correct me if I'm wrong.)

Your medical records are private, too.

I've been hospitalized twice. The second time was for 7 weeks. I don't remember too much about it, except it was pretty stress-free.
