It happens to me more frequently from 11:00pm-4:00am hours, then other times if I'm sleeping. I think my night cortisol is really high (which I validated with a saliva test, but don't know how reliable that is). Anyway, don't know if that's what you're experiencing, but sounds similar to what I experience at night.

I had what you're describing once or twice years ago. What I'm having now is quite different.

No panicky feelings, I just became more "awake" after each jerk. I've had the jerks before, but in the past I always fell asleep after one, maybe two at most.
