I'll wake up (in a jerky kind of way) feeling totally horrified and scared like something is totally wrong or that I'm going to die and not knowing why. It happens to me more frequently from 11:00pm-4:00am hours, then other times if I'm sleeping. I think my night cortisol is really high (which I validated with a saliva test, but don't know how reliable that is). Anyway, don't know if that's what you're experiencing, but sounds similar to what I experience at night.

I had what you're describing once or twice years ago. What I'm having now is quite different.No panicky feelings, I just became more "awake" after each jerk. I've had the jerks before, but in the past I always fell asleep after one, maybe two at most.
