Hi ADJ,
First of all, I hope you're doing well these days, and keeping healthy. Secondly, please don't believe everything you read or hear. Just because some people have experienced bad things on a medication certainly doesn't mean it will be the same for you. Don't live your life dwelling about what can happen, it's not healthy and things will only get worst.
I've been taking Effexor XR since last November. I'm presently taking 112.5mg and I feel great. I started off at 37.5mg and didn't increase to 75mg until about 4 months later. I always increased very slowly and only when I felt comfortable doing so. Only you can tell. Also, I have never experienced any side effects what-so-ever while taking this medication. The only time I had a hard time was a few weeks ago when I took it upon myself to decrease my dosage to 75mg. I was having some side effects and decided to go back to 112.5mg. Right now my body is comfortable at that dosage, and I'm not going to change anything just yet.
Give it some time, you won't see a big improvement just yet, it will take time. Be patient, and keep in mind that everyone has reacts different to medications, focus on yourself. Best of luck, and take care of yourself, keep me posted.
