Courage to Heal - getting rid of anger

Posted by orchid on August 12, 2005, at 13:56:14

Something that works for me a lot from the book - when you want to tap into your anger, try to first pretend you are angry, and start shouting - in a car, or in your apartment when no one is there, and slowly you get very angry and then it goes away from you..

I tried it, and it works. I feel I have relieved myself of a lot of anger against my father in the past few days by screaming in the car or in the house.

It may not work for everyone.. » orchid

I felt I should add this here also - after reading Tamar's post above - it might become uncontrollable for people with more intense issues and if you are not used to observing yourself and watching out for yourself..

Maybe a better thing would be to do it in therapist's office.

It's funny... when I read this post I understood a little better what you meant in the post about anxiety.

I think there's a difference between anxiety and anger. I sometimes think we need to access the anger and express it to process it.

But with anxiety, I can't see that it's so useful to experience it, except perhaps before a performance or an interview, where a little anxiety can help people perform better.

I dunno... I don't really feel that anxiety is constructive for me, whereas anger can be quite constructive...
