I think, and I'm quite serious about his, not joking, that I'd rather die than live like that.
Life just isn't so hot as it is.
Plus, I think that some of my main problems come from not eating, with my diabetes. Then I feel horrible and overeat. So I think what I need to remember to do is to eat regularly so that I don't get to feeling horrible.

Dinah,
I so get where you are coming from. I'm still trying to get into the counting/writing down mode. Still a lot of hand pain and that limits my ability to type or take on the extra stress of carefully watching what I eat.

Yeah, it makes eating very complicated. I say do all those things, but I've only done those things for 2 months and then stopped. My electronic balance is crappy and takes really expensive batteries that die really quickly. LOL
I'm probably not the best person to go for diet advice, I haven't lost anything. Although, when I was doing all that measuring, I did lose weight consistently.
Maybe do the measuring stuff for a while, like one month so you can learn how to guesstimate. After that just guessitmate your servings. I find the measuring stuff is a real eye opener.
I just prefer obsessively measuring everything, but I think there are other methods. I've heard of the portion control method, where you learn what a portion is by comparing food to a deck of cards, a tennis ball, etc.
I've found that Weight Watchers really works. You just have to make sure to count points. If you don't want to pay tons of money, I suggest you pay for the membership and for one meeting, get all the info and materials you need to start and then do it on your own. You can pay for other meetings to get more help.

I think I can't really think of it as dieting or it's bound to fail. And really it's not. It's more eating in a way that's good for a person with diabetes.
But right now I feel so awful that eating too much isn't really a problem. It's hard to eat at all.
So I'll think about it when I feel a bit better.

Dinah sorry your're feeling badly and I agree it has to be a way of life and forget the word diet. That's just my thought. Phillipa

I'm sorry you're not feeling well. :(
But I do often find it's a way to lose weight.
I've let my awareness of what I am eating slip. Heck, I've let my awareness of everything slip. I'm not at all present in the moment.
I'll try to start again.
On the plus side, I've been a lot more careful about not forgetting to eat before I leave home. On the minus side, I've been trying to cook well balanced homemade meals for my family. Sure, that sounds good. But the serving sizes rarely fit my family exactly, and guess who cleans the plate?

What a shock.
It makes me want to eat nothing but broth until I lose eighty pounds.
But I know that won't last.
Still, for the record.
Starting weight 186, holding steady at just shy of 200.
Gack.

Dinah,
I was so hoping you would find this thread and post on it! I am very close to doing something myself. Maybe after Memorial Day? Had some tests last week and probably more to come. Take care friend!

Dinah,
Didn't want this to disappear again. Still trying to get up enough courage to give up ice cream. It is so hot and it is one of my few vices....

I need to think about it myself. But I feel so darn rotten that it's hard to think of eating as anything but a way to keep putting one foot after another.
The vertigo is at least almost all gone. Maybe all gone. It's hard to tell since what remains might be all in my mind. It's certainly not as extreme as it was. But I've had migraines every single day for what feels like weeks, but probably hasn't been.
I am so tired of feeling bad, and worried because this kind of feeling bad really affects my ability to work and to do the things I enjoy. I know I've been eating a fair amount, although I really don't recall doing it.
Sigh. It's such a vicious cycle. I know I'd likely feel better if I lost weight. But in order to lose weight I have to feel worse short term, and I never feel well enough to do that.

Since I'm actually feeling ok for the past few days, I've been walking. Twenty minutes the first day, thirty minutes yesterday. Even with thirty minutes of walking, I only got 5000 steps for the day, which is pretty discouraging.
It's frustrating that when I'm feeling well I can do these things with no problem. But when I'm not feeling well, when my brain is all full of sludge, I can't make myself do it.
I haven't made any extreme changes in my eating. It's hard to balance eating with my family and cooking with my family and dieting.
It's too early to see any results, except that my dog is very happy.

Dinah carry a water bottle with you and wait til it's cool as that's when I ride my bike after 6pm. Have you considered bike riding? Breeze makes it much cooler. And it's kind of fun. Love Phillipa

We're starting out closer to seven than six, because it really is hot. I double it with obedience practice, so half the way we do heeling and the other half she can walk at the end of the lead, as she prefers.
This sounds stupid, but I have always been afraid of riding a bike. I only did it when forced. In biking and skating both, you're safer the faster you go. I have trouble with that concept. :)

Dinah who says faster is better never heard that one. So the dog is the reason. I ride a beach bike with a wide seat and no gears so up and down hills don't go fast. Phillipa

Dinah I honestly don't know what's wrong with me as the pounds just keep disappearing and I've never in my life felt so horrible. Back aches, no energy, falling asleep could probably cold turkey the benzos that's how bad it is. I do worry about some disease. It's since the surgery. And this horrible fear won't even go to a doc. Love Phillipa

To my surprise, I haven't gained weight at all. I've lost four pounds. I couldn't believe it when my doctor's scale registered that, but so did my own scale.
I hadn't had the nerve to look before.
So why on earth are my clothes tighter than they were before? Some sort of weird weight redistribution?
It's only four pounds, but I'm feeling pretty positive. Since I thought I'd gained about five pounds, I'm nearly ten pounds less than I thought. :)

Dinah,
I think a lot of it has to do with bloating. Some days I'm down a bit more. I never know by the way my clothes fit.
