hi everyone,
I've been very bad about sticking to a healthy eating plan. I had lost about 10 lbs, but then i started pigging out on McDonalds and doritos and chocolate....and stopped working out...and I gained it ALL back! aaarrrggghhh! I feel so fat and disgusting. But the worst part is that I always go back like this. I start out eating healthy and working out, then I slide.Sometimes it just seems impossible to me that I will ever lose weight and keep it off. Sometimes I feel so bad about it that I don't even want to bother trying again. Then I feel like just the biggest loser, the weakest-willed person in the world. It's very depressing. Starting over again is so hard, and so daunting!
Any advice or tips?

By the way,
10 lbs is sort of a good start but not ALL I need to do to be "normal" according to my doctor's chart. It's more than a "drop in the bucket" but it's sure as heck not the whole bucket! I could stand to lose 30-40 lbs if not more. So it was like I took a baby step, then stepped back. So depressing. :(J

I am in your club... I could stand to lose 30-40 pounds. Just about one pound per year old would be great.
My roommate asked me to be matron of honor at her upcoming wedding (in October) and I really want to lose the weight by then. It's hard though. I'll lose some and then eat too much again and put it all back on. I really need some will-power and don't know where to get it. I'll keep trying though. I hope you do too.

I think you should be very happy and proud of yourself for being about to lose the 10 pounds in the first place!
I've never been able to go on a diet for any length of time and I've never lost more than 5 pounds. It is a good thing I don't gain weight quickly!
Over about 5 years I've gained like 10 pounds. I always gain back the weight I've lost (usually from being sick) and I tend to stay at one weight. I should lose maybe 15 pounds.
Hey, we can support each other and do it together! It will be very difficult for me because I've gotten used to my lazy lifestyle.
How about posting all the things we did right each day? We can focus on the positive!

thanks for the support! Sometimes I just feel so down on myself. I know I shouldn't let it, but my feelings about weight and the need to be thin to be worthwhile sometimes overwhelm me. I feel that being overweight is equated with being stupid, lazy, slackerish. Most of the time I'm OK with myself, but lately I've been feeling down about it.Thanks for being supportive, it helps! :)
I think encouraging each other is a good idea. Hopefully I'll do something good tomorrow that I can share!JenStar

>I used to find that I defeated myself whenever I lost weight. I think part of it was weighing myself. I'd see the loss, be happy, and then gain it right back. Maybe not weighing yourself, sticking to the healthy habits, and going by how your clothes fit?
BTW, your not a "loser" or weak willed. I think that losing weight is the hardest thing to do. Even quitting cigarettes was WAY easier than losing weight. Don't give up! I wish you much success with this!

Ack. I know the feeling. I started a post on Health with my ongoing plans to lose fifty pounds. I have gained a fair amount since my first post. It's kind of depressing.
I've remained at about the same weight since I packed on the antidepressant weight eight years ago. And I'm on notice from my doctor that I'll have medications i don't want added if I don't lose weight by late august.
It's not going to happen, even with that incentive.
Will is hard to drum up when results are as slow as they are in weight loss.

I think that healthy habits are really the key to losing weight and I'm trying to adopt some of them. I've been walking alot more. I'm not supposed to drive anyway so I've sort of extended the distance that I'll walk by asking for rides less often. If I have to go somewhere that the bus doesn't go, and it's only a mile or two away, I'll walk.
My new hobby, geocaching, adds alot of walking during the day.. Yesterday I walked around 6 or 7 miles. It's nice to get exercise while you're doing something you like to do.
I've also switched to mostly diet soda instead of the regular sodas. I figure that cuts out about 135 pounds of sugar per year that I'll not be putting into my body. I've also cut down the amount of food that I eat. I hope that all of these changes produce some results.
As far as the wedding... we haven't gone shopping for dresses yet, and the wedding may be getting moved out a bit which is fine by me... I'll have a little more time to lose the weight. I don't think that my friend has given a great deal of thought about dresses yet, but that subject may soon become important to her, and frankly, I can't wait to see what she chooses.

geocaching sound SOOO much fun. I would love to try it! And it does sound like a great way to exercise. Is it easy to find the hidden rewards? What kinds of fun stuff have you found so far? It's amazing that you'll walk 6 miles on an adventure! I so admire that. :)I'm sorry if I missed it, but why are you not supposed to drive?
