It has been a month now since I sprained my right ankle. I don't think it was sprained badly because I was still able to limp around. I can walk ok on it but it is still a little swollen and it hurts a bit when I push on it. Is this normal? Shouldn't it be all healed by now? I've never sprained an ankle before this so I really don't know the answers.

Mine stayed slightly swollen for 2 months after it was healed. Keeping it elevated when you can will help. The problem is the darn thing is at the bottom of our bodies instead of the top (unless you can walk around on your hands). Between gravity and being used constantly, it takes a lot longer for the swelling to go down than you'd hope.

I think it can take a while, esp. if you've been walking, standing and tip-toeing a lot (at work) lately. I'd give your doctor a call and ask for advice, such as:
-what kinds of shoes would best help me heal (probably she'll say gym shoes w good support)
-should I wrap the ankle for work for a few days/weeks? If so, how tightly should I wrap it?
-should i take Ibuprofin, Advil or aspirin daily to help reduce swelling?
-Should I ice it every evening or elevate it after work for 15-20 minutes?
My personal recommendation (although I'm not a doctor!) would be to wear really good shoes, elevate your feet during work breaks, take Advil/Ibuprofin (as long as you don't have allergies to it), and ice in the evenings for 15 minutes. I'm not sure about wrapping - if that would help or not.
good luck! I hope it feels better soon. :)

Sounds totally normal to me. I have sprained both my ankles several times (I play contact sport, and also ride a bike, which seems to inconvenience car drivers; I've been hit a few times).
Sprains seem to take quite a while to heal and can remain painful for weeks. My ankles are now permanently swollen... but remember I'm talking about multiple sprains. I think a little profen would be OK in your case.
The really important thing is to do the right kind of strengthening exercises. A physiotherapist or sports injuries specialist could help. Keep your ankle mobile and do plenty of walking, but stop if it hurts.

Oh yeah, I also meant to say: avoid high heels like the plague. You could risk further injury. Wear flats if at all possible.

Thanks everyone for the replies.
It makes me feel better knowing that it is normal.
I think my ankle is still a little weaker than my left ankle. I feel this difference when trying on high heels (just for fun). I don't usually wear high heels.
What kinds of exercises should I do to strenghten my ankle? I already stand around for hours. Should I just walk or jog or something?
I don't think I need to take anything for it...it doesn't hurt. Maybe I will try some ice.
