I had never had a yeast infection in all my life (which I know is rare for a woman), but the week before Thanksgiving of this last year, I got my "first one."
EVER since, it seems to not go away.
I have had the dr. prescribe Diflucan pill several times. It goes away for a week, then comes back.
I have been on Monistat 7 almost continually.
What would be the sudden cause of these infections.. I think I've had probably 7 of them since THanksgiving.
I've been very good about my sugar intake and have been eating regular/plain yogurt DAILY. I am taking acidophilus chewables as well.
It just won't go away.. Is this from stress??

Have you had your blood sugars checked? I've had chronic yeast infections under my arms since being a diabetic. Especially under stress. And the dermatologist who finally correctly diagnosed it said it was not uncommon for diabetics.

Getting your sugar levels checked is very wise. Also, if your hormones have changed - a different birth control pill or (hello!) you're experiencing the onset of menopause - then you could expect that this could happen.
The same thing has happened to me, although I have figured out the timing within my cycle, it doesn't prevent it from happening. I have considered doing some more radically diet changes that I've read about. Things like not consuming fermented food (wine, cheese, breads) is supposed to help.
It's a whole bunch of no fun, though, isn't it?

Well, they have checked my blood for diabetes and hypoglycemia becuase my father is diabetic and assure me my blood was fine.
But then somebody mentioned you are supposed to have a "fast" before any type of testing for that and I never fasted. They just took blood. So what's up with that?
One thing I thought of last night (maybe too much information) but we started using a different brand of condoms. I wonder if I am allergic.
My husband had an "AAA HA!" moment and said, " Have you noticed after we are together, you get worse?"
So now I'm thinking it's the condoms.
We will change back and see since I can't convince my husband we should try abstinence.
Men!?!?

I am going to try one of those expensive supplements that is supposed to help aleviate chronic yeast problems. I guess that given the delicate balance of our systems, it wouldn't take much to throw things out of whack. Stress, hormones, you name it.
If you have a contact allergy from the condoms, then the Monistat would not be helping (but it wouldn't be hurting, either). I have to say that even without using them, sex is painful (afterwards) when I have a yeast infection. Actually, it makes me quite miserable.
If it is a yeast infection, then to me it makes perfect sense to take something that works from the inside out. I found with the one-shot pill from the doctor that it made it go away only for a short while. So, I'm trying the health-store supplement route.
I had one doctor once tell me that the CURE for this would be to stand on my head in Arizona. I don't think he was kidding (and he wasn't my doctor for very long!).

Spriggy--are you certain that it's yeast? I used to get chronic bacterial infections that mimicked the symptoms of yeast (itching, redness, discharge, etc.). If this is the case, then an anti-fungal like Monistat won't touch it. I was prescibed something called "Metro-gel" that cleared it up. However, if you have been checked by a doctor and are positive that this is indeed a persistent yeast infection, your best bet is probably just to keep starving it through diet (NO sugar, white flour, fermented foods, yeasted bread, etc.) and keep doing the probiotics. I have also used a product called Three-Lac to deal with yeast. It's a super-powered lactic acid bacteria compound and seems to work quite well. It is, however, pretty darned expensive and can only be purchased on-line. You can do a search on google to get more info. It might be worth it to you. Hope you feel better soon!
This is the end of the thread.
