Has anyone found that Cymbalta helps migraines?

NO, I have had migraines forever, and I still have as many if not more than ever. I have at least 2 a month that usually last several days at a time. I don't think that it will help them, at least not for me.

Sorry to hear about your frequent migraines, CrazyCO. I, too, get migraines 2 or 3 times a week. I have read that Cymbalta is being used for neuropathic pain, for diabetics. I thought that it might assist with headache pain.
Anyone know about pain management and Cymbalta?

Obvious question: what about Topamax? If you start very low and very slow, the cognitive side effects can often be avoided. However, if the side effects are induced during a rapid titration, they often linger for a long time.

I didn't realize it until I went off of it but it eliminated my backpain and any other pain I had. All except an occasional HA. Fondly, Phillipa

I don't get migraines, but I actually get more headaches since I've been on Cymbalta. I think it's because I need more water. They're not bad enough to quit the Cymbalta, which has been working well for me. In addition to helping with anxiety and depression, it also helps the chronic pain I have in my neck and upper back. I had to decrease from 60mg to 40mg (my blood pressure was up a little) and I've definitely noticed I'm feeling a little more pain now. Dang!
But enough about me... I read somewhere recently (Prevention? Harvard Medical Journal?) that 3mg of Melatonin before bed is helping some people reduce the frequency of their migraines.

i've been getting headaches too from the cymbalta. you mentioned water, does that help and how much do you drink? i usually only drink coffee but if it would help the headaches i'd force myself to drink water.

I got headaches when I first started Cymbalta, then they subsided after 4 weeks or so. Whenever we changed the dosage, whether up or down, I'd get the headaches again. When I had to abruptly stop the med because of high blood pressure, the headaches were tremendous and didn't respond to any OTC pain relievers.
I also get migraines and have not found that Cymbalta has affected them in any way.

Scott, Topamax makes me feels nauseated and drugged. Did you have that side effect? If so, what strength did you start with?

Yes, my neurologist suggested 6 - 9 mg of melatonin every night. I take 9 mg. I'm not sure if it helps, but it makes sense. Seratonin supposedly plays a role in migraines. And I've read that seratonin is also involved in the sleeping mechamism. Melatonin aids in sleep, too. Also, when I get a bad migraine, it helps to sleep. So seratonin and melatonin both must have something to do with the part of the brain that has to do with sleeping & migraine pain.

Sorry it took me so long to get back to you. I try to drink several tall glasses of water a day. Maybe a couple throughout the morning, a couple more in the afternoon, another 1-2 in the evening. I've quit caffeine altogether. It is a diuretic. I drink decaf in the morning now, and lemonade at lunch (instead of cola or iced tea).
This is the end of the thread.
