Ugh. This new drug just has me ravenous all the time. So far, if I try to have 'just a little' snack, I end up losing control and overeating. I've managed to control it by just forcing myself to wait for the next meal, but that's harder and harder, and I actually have planned snacks for myself. Here are some of the things I have done so far to help manage this:
1. Drug also causes constipation, so I have a serving of Metamucil with a 24 oz bottle of water about three times a day, usually either before a meal or when I'm ready to start gnawing on the sofa.
2. Trying to stick to easy-to-regualate snacks, like carrots or pickles or even saltine crackers. That way, I can choose how many in advance. The problem is, sometimes I'll make that choice, and find myself just uncontrollably going back for a second helping! It's terrible.
3. Drinking lots of water. It's all I can think of, but it's not really helping. Heck, it's not really even helping with the dry mouth!
Does anyone have any other suggestions? Is there anything that's helped you manage your apetite when the meds make you ravenously hungry, and unable to control your eating?
Thanks!

Hi again...
This may work..it's working for me a little..
I've got into aromatheraphy ( yet another phase)
using essestial oils with water in a burner.
I've been burning lavender / ginger / lemongrass/well loads more.
I massage myself with them with almond oil - for pain..so I must stink.
I seem to be eating less by the sweet smelling oils.
Maybe a coincidence.
I'm now addicted to drinking ginger beer ( the non alcoholic one ) that seems to curb my appetite.
Oh and bounching on my little trampoline usually at 3 am..
I can wear my tight jeans now .

Stewart's Ginger Beer is my tummy trouble fixer. Works great for any tummy upset. I also recommend it for almost everything else, though, since it really is good stuff. On the other hand, way too much sugar for me in general, and tons of calories, so I don't drink it much except medicinally. Kinda like a hot toddy for a cold: whether or not there is real medicinal value, it tastes so good it doesn't really matter.

LOL! Too bad the young'uns who used to blast the stereo at 2AM finally moved out from next door -- I could have used a trampoline to help either solve the problem or make myself feel better by bouncing at 5AM when I wake up and can't get back to sleep.

Congratulations, but now I can't talk to you anymore... (<<joke) I don't have any tight jeans, so I don't know if I can wear them. We did pick up a pair of stretch jeans at Costco the other day, but they didn't have the size that would have fit me, so I am wearing a size or two larger than optimal jean-fit. I figured, "Well, it'll be OK, since they're stretch, the company probably shaves half an inch or so off the sizing..." Nope. I think they add on an inch, despite the stretch! Oh, well... At least they fit better than my old jeans do these days. {{sigh}} Still, since my belly is distended, I guess I don't want them tight enough to show that off, right?
Congratulations on your slimmin', and good luck for continued success.

There's a ginger tea you can get (Ginger Aid by Traditional Medicinals) that has no sugar, but it's yummy and good hot or cold. It's my saviour when I have a dodgy stomach.
I try to keep good stuff to eat handy so I don't dive into the easier, less healthy alternatives that lurk in my fridge and cupboard. I only buy cookies on special occasions (like company) and I really go for the salty crunchy things, so crudites are usually on hand.
It's so hard when a med makes you hungry. For me it was that my body lost its "I'm full now, thanks" indicator.
Also it's getting to that time of year when I put popsicles in the freezer too.

I am getting exactly the same problem with my new med. I've put on a stone in 3 weeks (I'm usually pretty slim), so maybe my advice isn't that valuable! I'm trying to get myself to eat more slowly, savour every mouthful. It seems that I'm thinking about food all the time, except when I'm eating it, cos I'm too busy shovelling it down, so I'm trying to slow it down. It seems to be curbing my hunger somewhat, but only a little.

racer:
some people in my office are on this "zone" kick.
i think most fad diets are bunk but ...they try to balance a snack in terms of fat, protein, and carbs. this means a handful of olives and some green veggies make a good snack. i found eating olives (not too many, 5 or 10) was excellent at curbing hunger.
maybe change your snacks so they are balanced? veggies plus a little bit of high quality cheese and/or olives.
i also find buying the expensive food is much more satisfying and helps me eat smaller quantities. your mileage may vary.
This is the end of the thread.
