Managing apetite on meds?

Posted by Racer on May 14, 2004, at 18:49:45

Ugh. This new drug just has me ravenous all the time. So far, if I try to have 'just a little' snack, I end up losing control and overeating. I've managed to control it by just forcing myself to wait for the next meal, but that's harder and harder, and I actually have planned snacks for myself. Here are some of the things I have done so far to help manage this:

1. Drug also causes constipation, so I have a serving of Metamucil with a 24 oz bottle of water about three times a day, usually either before a meal or when I'm ready to start gnawing on the sofa.

2. Trying to stick to easy-to-regualate snacks, like carrots or pickles or even saltine crackers. That way, I can choose how many in advance. The problem is, sometimes I'll make that choice, and find myself just uncontrollably going back for a second helping! It's terrible.

3. Drinking lots of water. It's all I can think of, but it's not really helping. Heck, it's not really even helping with the dry mouth!

Does anyone have any other suggestions? Is there anything that's helped you manage your apetite when the meds make you ravenously hungry, and unable to control your eating?

Thanks!
