Maybe some random good news for men on Nardil. May 2019 study.
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/30693539
RESULTS:
We observed that MAOAIs, particularly clorgyline and phenelzine, were effective at decreasing MAOA activity in human prostate cancer cells. MAOAIs significantly decreased growth of LNCaP, C4-2B, and 22Rv1 cells and produced additive growth inhibitory effects when combined with enzalutamide. Clorgyline decreased expression of AR-FL and AR-V7 in 22Rv1 cells and was effective at decreasing growth of an enzalutamide-resistant C4-2B cell line with increased AR-V7 expression.CONCLUSIONS:
MAOAIs decrease growth and proliferation of androgen-sensitive and castration-resistant prostate cancer cells. Clorgyline, in particular, decreases expression of AR-FL and AR-V7 expression and decreases growth of an enzalutamide-resistant cell line. These findings provide preclinical validation of MAOA inhibitors either alone or in combination with antiandrogens for therapeutic intent in patients with advanced forms of prostate cancer

Yes, absolutely, pity about the unavailability of clorgyline. Castration resistant cancer cells? Something to look forward to, perhaps for me, although I don't really care enough.

In the U.S., the NIMH (NIH) abandoned clorgyline for use in humans due to a few incidents of heart attacks.
To date, clorgyline represents the most potent antidepressant in the world.

I forget exactly what you said about your experience with it.
Complete remission?

I was given clorgyline at a time when I was completely unresponsive to all of the drugs I was trying, including Parnate and Nardil. I responded to clorgyline, but only partially. The improvement was inadequate, and still left me depressed and unemployable. I asked the doctor at the NIH if he would consider adding a TCA to it. He wouldn't do it. I understood why, but felt that I needed to move forward.
It may be that clorgyline is particularly effective because it is irreversible and specific for MAO-A.

If there only was an MAOI that targets Serotonin only. I always had (pre)psychotic problems even on Moclobemide!

I couldn't tolerate the full dose of moclobemide but the little I took seemed to smarten me up.
It helped with verbal fluency, and not surprisingly made me feel like having a stiff drink.

All men get prostate cancer if they live long enough, but it often just sits there doing nothing.
For those unlucky enough to have metastatic prostate cancer, castration is now done reversibly with meds, rather than surgery, but the side effects are the same.... :/ Zoladex injection is a pretty standard 'chemical castration'. It never cures the cancer but it can temporarily shrink the mets enough to relieve pain a lot.

This was my experience also.

Moclobemide certainly did something, but I did't like it, not enough to continue. This was on half a tablet.
3+3=6 Gleason years ago, which tells us little about the future aggressiveness of the cancer?
Now I have multi parametric MRIs every 2 years after all this time, to begin with it was every year.
I wasn't too keen on the invasiveness of advanced biopsies, although from the others they would now have a better idea of where in the prostate to take the sample.

And maybe they would analyse the biology of the cancer in subsequent biopsies to predict future aggressiveness of the cancer cells? That is histology? Can this be done?

Hi S,
3+3=6 Gleason is the lowest possible grade of prostate cancer, right? I believe a lot of men just have this and don't know. The regular MRIs sound good, and like something you wouldn't get here. 'Just come back if you have any problems, Sir'.

I am 30. Do I already need prostate exams? I was riding a bicycle and it really hurt. It was a men saddle.

are you guys still putting your nardil into enteric coated capsules? Just wondering whether that really made a difference or not?
