Hi, I am currently on 20mg of Abilify and recently started on 100mg of luvox and I feel dizzy, shakey, sleepy and blurred vision.
Are this normal side effects or are these drugs contraindicated?
Cheers
Sam

> SamYes, there's a definite interaction. Fluvoxamine will inhibit the metabolism of aripiprazole. It's as if you took more Abilify than you normally do, along with the effects of the Luvox. And I haven't considered the receptor-based interactions.
If you can't tolerate the combination, it's contra-indicated.

Hi Larry, thanks so much for your reply. When you say that the Fluvoxamine will inhibit the metabolism of aripiprazole does that mean it will make the aripipazole less effective and stop working? Does it mean I have to take more aripipazole?
I have bipolar disorder and I shouldn't be taking antidepressants alone. I am also having a little bit of shortness or breath.
cheers

Samantha how high is your luvox dose? I do know that luvox makes benzos except ativan stronger and dose of other benzos may need to be lowered. Now abilify don't know. Anyway to let your pdoc know what's going on? Love Phillipa

If Luvox inhibits the metabolism (slows down the disassembly) of Abilify, the blood levels of Abilify will increase.I have not researched the interaction, so I will defer to Larry Hoover for his expertise in this area.

I second Scott's nod to Larry. If it's making you dizzy etc., I'd stop the Luvox until you've had a chance to talk with your doc.

Shortness of breath? Have you thought about a quick visit to the ER? Do you know what is causing the shortness of breath? If not, I'd be inclined to stay away from any additional meds until you have been seen by a doctor.
