Can I just say first that I am really blessed to have found you all. EMPATHY. It's not easy to find but works wonders. Thank you all.
As for the update, I went to the doc yesterday. His idea is allergies (LOTS of pollen here) or a virus. He gave me an allergy shot (which I just stuck my arm out for as I am so tired of trying to "figure" everything out first). And, an rx for valium which he said is fine to take for the spinning. Conclusions is that this will go away in 2-6 weeks. Hmmmm.
Adding valium (which I have never taken) to:
Geodon, Lamictal, Resotril, Prozac. godd idea or bad? Anyone?

I'm glad you found us, too.

You probably have a lot of fluid in your middle ear. It is visible when he looks in your ear with that special flashlight thingy.
May I suggest that you take magnesium (300-500 mg/day), and niacinamide (200-500 mg, as needed, up to 2000 mg/day)? Both will help with the allergy thing.

Hi. Isn't magnesium found naturally in bananas? As in, if I ate a banana or 2 a day that would give me enough? Also, years ago I took naicin a few times. It always gave me a brain buzz and major flush. Are these things totally safe while on all the meds I am on?
thank you, Thank you.

I have no problem at all, bearing with you. There is not limit to that, okay?
> Hi. Isn't magnesium found naturally in bananas? As in, if I ate a banana or 2 a day that would give me enough?
Bananas are a good source of potassium. I honestly don't know of a good natural source for magnesium. I find that magnesium citrate is a source that suits me best, but just stay clear of magnesium oxide. Any other source is fine. If you take too much (which is a relative term) you may get loose stools. If that happens, reduce you dose by 100 mg, or try splitting it up with different meals. It can make you drowsy, so many people take it just before going to bed at night.
> Also, years ago I took naicin a few times. It always gave me a brain buzz and major flush.
That is niacin's effect, yes. That's why I recommended niacinamide. The amide gives the opposite reaction. It blocks the flush, which is actually caused by histamine. NiacinAMIDE blocks histamine release.
> Are these things totally safe while on all the meds I am on?
> thank you, Thank you.Yes. I'd not have recommended them if there was any risk of adverse reaction. These are nutrients. That doesn't in itself make them safe, but these two are safe nutrients to take with those meds.
You're welcome.
Just so ya know, this thread is likely to end up being moved to a different board, the Alternative board, because it discusses non-medicinal treatment.

I've never taken Valium, soooo, what kind of effect can I expect? Do I take it at night or day? Does it make one sleepy or not? It's supposed to take this awful vertigo away for now.

How come? Re: the oxide form..
I think magnesium is a great supplement - I quite like the citrate form too..

> How come? Re: the oxide form..Very low bioavailability. Mg=O is an oxide. Not a salt, as are all the others. Solubility requires acid catalysis, via an intermediate with high activation energy. Bioavailability studies put MgO at about 18%, and that requires healthy levels of acid. Many of us here do not produce sufficient acid, due to age, disability, or concurrent use of meds with that effect.
Magnesium salts are always 100% soluble. The counter ion (the citrate, glycinate, sulphate, etc.) is always a good leaving group, itself fully soluble.

Thanks Lar, that makes sense to me about the bioavailability - I've always found citrate to feel more potent in its effects, even at lower dosages. Although, I still find I can get some relief from the oxide, its nowhere as good compared to citrate and I think I need to take more too.
I guess it rings true that you pay for what you get in some respects ~ oxide is cheaper than citrate!
Thanks for the heads up.

I have some Magnesium Phosphate tissue salts...does that do the trick as far as a magnesium supplement is concerned?
Also, I REALLY need to know about the Valium. The spinning is pretty bad today but I have to drive tonight. I don't know if the Valium is going to knock me out, up or otherwise. Help.

> I have some Magnesium Phosphate tissue salts...does that do the trick as far as a magnesium supplement is concerned?
Yes. Just be careful of the dose. Too high a concentration of magnesium salts in the gut will cause loose stools. For most people, 300 mg is easily tolerated. Many will tolerate 500 mg.
For optimal uptake, ensure adequate vitamin D intake, at least 2000 IU/day, until the symptoms resolve.

I can't predict how the drug will affect you. It could cause you to be too drowsy to drive safely. It is a tranquilizer drug. You should wait until you don't have to drive, to try it out.
