Hi
In 2002 I started what I call a miracle drug - parnate. I was so happy that got rid of my depression and that it wasn't known for pooping out.
According to 2 psychopharmacologists, trileptal is believed to be the culprit in reducing Parnate's efficacy on me. Neither of them really explained why. Does anyone here know?
They tried to take me off the Trileptal in the hospital, but I went hypomanic and psychotic. But I think it's because they took me off it so quickly. I would be willing to wean off the trileptal if it meant that Parnate would work for me again.
I hope someone can tell me why trileptal would affect Parnate.

Tegretol and Trileptal are two different drugs... related but different. Trileptal has the same chemical make up as Tegretol except it has an oxygen atom added to it. This helps it have less side effects than Tegretol. Trileptal is the only mood stabiliser that has ever helped me or that I have been able to tolerate. But if getting off meant my Parnate would work again I would do it. Only slowly.

Cool wasnt aware of that much difference, you know when u hear things, but thanks clearing that up.
As for ur situation, just keep in mind that although it "might" be the trlpeptal, lets not forget parnate is notrious for pooping out.
Good luck i hope the culprit shows itself .

Have you experienced psychosis in the past?...However without it being drug induced or related to the withdrawal of psychiatric medication?
I hope you can find a way to restore Parnates effects.

Yes, I have experienced psychosis on its own. I am going through it now. I hear voices and I have some visual hallucinations. I try not to feed voices by getting scared or upset. I just tell myself that there is some faulty wiring in my brain. But I do hope they go away soon. I hear voices when my depression is very deep.

Hi. Can you expand on what you wrote. Are you saying that the Trileptal is reducing the amount of Parnate that my body is metabolising?
Thanks.

Hi Phillipa
My pdoc doesn't want me to use the Adderall XR anymore. Drugs like Adderall and Dexedrine give a false sense of well being. He would prefer to correct the chemical imbalance other ways. I could just fill the prescription, but I am trying to work with my pdoc and not go off on my own and change things.

Thanks. I didn't know that Parnate was notorious for pooping out. :-( I've heard of people being on it for years. I wish I didn't have such a harsh reaction to Nardil. I think Nardil is probably best MAOI. But I wasn't able to tolerate it. I don't think I would have been able to tolerate the weight gain either.
God this sucks.

It's ironic that I was in the hospital and precautions weren't really there when they played around with my meds.
Sorry. Rant over.
