I've heard 30-60mg. Anyone hear of this? Does it help to go over 20 or 30mg? The problem with the medical literature is that its all based on marketing. "No clinical evidence that higher doses are effective" just means that it has not been tested and that the company has decided that its profits are best at this dose, etc.

hi! Have you tried Luvox? Or Anafranil? Or combos? (using add-ons like BuSpar, stimulants, atypicals, benzos, etc.) High-dose ADs are sometimes effective--really high dose effexor, 600mgs or so, can help some people with depression--but with a lot of psychiatric meds, it really is true that increasing the dose doesn't increase reponse that much *on the whole* (when you're looking at large-group data, you can easily miss cases where it makes a *big* difference). I'd say...talk to your doc, but first maybe try augmenting whatever treatment you're receiving now. Augmentation isn't all that well studied, either, but seems to offer benefits to a lot of people...with some disorders, such as severe OCD or bipolar, polypharmacy tends to be the rule, rather than the exception...docs who treat these disorders will be pretty experienced in putting together a workable cocktai. Good luck!

Some people on Psycho-Babble have gone as high as 60mg with Lexapro and up to 120mg of Celexa. I know that seems rather extreme. It seems that the dosages that are effective for OCD are higher than for depression. It also takes longer for one with OCD to respond to treatment.
Has your doctor described this to you?

Most Dr.'s I've been to are at a loss for most things. They have to be "directed". Since Lexapro was tested at only 10 or 20mg, they are reluctant to go higher for liability issues.
If I tell them that I want to go to 40 or 60 they will let me, but not until I do so. Its all about what Forest Pharmaceutical feels is correct for their marketing strategy. Its why the 20 mg pills are only a few cents more than the 10mg pills, etc.
This is the end of the thread.
