I've been doing research to find out what happend to me over the past month.
I now know it was indeed SSRI induced hypomania. Not the "fun, euphoric" mania either.. but the restless, agitated, uncomfortable, weird feeling, and utter depression kind.
I am on day 5 of no Lexapro and beginning to feel *some* improvement.
Anyone know how long it will take for me to be normal (myself!) again?
That was the worst experience of my life and I honestly can't believe I survived without committing suicide.
Never in my life did I have to fight the overwhelming to do away with myself as I did on that Lexapro.

ick, you had a mixed state, I've had those too. I've also had SSRIs give me euphoric manias. I still use them because they kick my OCD's a*s. I say, stick with that Lexapro and give it time to work. Take care of yourself and get enough sleep, eat well too. Give at at least 4-6 weeks to see full benefit of the Lexapro. Also, if you're getting those mixed agitated states, consider adding a bit of mood stabilizer in just to counter it. Trileptal is quite a good one (at least in my biased opinion). Good luck!

How many hours were you sleeping at night?
I know it seems I am acting as a salesman for Zyprexa this week, but I would definitely consider using it should you ever experience that state again. It can feel like magic for some people to thwart suicidality. You would only need to use it temporarily. You might want to ask your doctor to prescribe you some Zyprexa to have on hand in an emergency.

Hey Scott,
I agree, I use Zyprexa for mixed states on a temporary basis and it is excellent.> How many hours were you sleeping at night?

Hello,
>I now know it was indeed SSRI induced hypomania.
It's possible, don't be too sure though. Does your psychiatrist agree? SSRIs such as Lexapro sometimes cause anxiety, akathisia (restlessness) and agitation. These symptoms don't necessarily indicate mania or a mixed state. These side effects can occur both in people with bipolar disorder ....and in people without bipolar disorder.
Regards,
Ed.

Spriggy said 'I was given Compazine (and Phenergen) a few times for a stomach bug and both wigged me out. Made me EXTREMELY uncomfortable, restless, and felt very bizarre on both.'
This side effect was probably akathisia. Lexapro can also cause akathisia. Did Lexapro cause similar side effects to Compazine?
As well as considering the possibility that Lexapro may have induced a mixed state, I also think that it is worth considering the possibility that what you experienced was a form of akathisia.
