Has anyone tried both of these medications? I am on 225mg of Effexor XR daily and it seems to not work as well for my anxiety/GAD. I was wondering if anyone has tried Cymbalta and had success with it controlling their anxiety/GAD or social anxiety. Thanks.

I am currently taking both Effexor and Cymbalta. I have been on Effexor for several years and have not seen any relief. I just started Cymbalta two days ago so I can't really say if it is going to work for me or not.

I took 225mg Effexor XR for several years, and now take 60 mg Cymbalta. The two have had very similar effects for me, including not being very effective on their own in relieving my depression. I'm not sure either of them alone has done anything for my anxiety, but as the depression lifts, the anxiety eases, for me.
I know that's not much help, but honestly: I'd have to say I like the Cymbalta better, but they've been pretty similar for me overall.

Effexor and Cymbalta are quite similar. They are both SNRI's, meaning, they both work on seritonin and norepinephrine. The big difference seems to be that cymbalta works on norepinephrine regardless of dose and effexor only does at higher dosages. At least I think that's right.
From personal experience, cymbalta is a lot cleaner drug. I've had virtually no side effects from it. Effexor caused a lot of side effects for me.
Hope this helps

My libido wasn't all that low on Cymbalta alone, but with the addition of Wellbutrin, it's raging high now.
(Which would be much nicer if my spouse had a libido, too...)
Dunno if it's the Wellbutrin raising my libido, or just the fact that I'm not depressed?

No, Effexor made me feel normal again, I had plenty of libido but my Dr. put me on Paxil and the libido went downhill quick this is why I am either going back to effexor or going to switch to Cymbalta.

What dose of Paxil are you taking? Are you taking regular or Paxil CR?
