Effexor and Cymbalta are quite similar. They are both SNRI's, meaning, they both work on seritonin and norepinephrine. The big difference seems to be that cymbalta works on norepinephrine regardless of dose and effexor only does at higher dosages. At least I think that's right.

From personal experience, cymbalta is a lot cleaner drug. I've had virtually no side effects from it. Effexor caused a lot of side effects for me.
