Remeron+Wellbutrin+Provigil: Atypical Depression

Posted by studentMD on February 6, 2004, at 17:04:48

I started Remeron 2 nights ago for Atypical Depression. I have been taking Wellbutrin SR (200 mg) and Provigil (to combat hypersomnolence I've had for years). Has anyone else just started with Remeron and feeling the effects? I have some pain in my arm and wrist that feels like Carpal Tunnel Syndrome might feel, and yesterday I fell in the shower due to dizziness. Today, I feel great...I'd love to know someone else out there is trying this med out, too....

Hi There!, I too suffer from Atypical depression, Remeron has been a great drug for me, I take it with Efexor. I find that after talking it I sometimes get an irritating feeling in my feet when seated and it goes away when I lay down & go to sleep. :) It also gives me a little ankle odema. Paradoxically, after about 2 months, Remeron has cured my hypersomnia & my strong desire for an afternoon nap has gone.

How much are you talking? I started on 15mg, but I increased it to 30mg when I found out how well it reverses SSRI induced side effects.

Cheers,
Panda.

Panda, I'm so glad to hear it's been a good med for you. I'm interested to hear you're using remeron with effexor -- and no sexual side effects, huh? That's amazing. I'm taking 30 mg at night, too. What about weight gain -- has it been a big problem? I think that's my only concern right now...I was worried about the "Sedative" effects, too, but as you say, I think I feel more energetic than I did before....I hope this new feeling lasts! I haven't noticed any edema yet, but fluid retention may explain the pain I had in my arm yesterday. And I haven't noticed any effects right after taking it, 'cause I take it in bed right before I go to sleep....So far, so good...

I am taking Lexapro for depression/anxiety, and have been experiencing pain in my left wrist/thumb since I began the med. This is my first psych drug, so I don't know a lot about the effects, but the pain in my wrist is a pain in the butt. It started at week 1, and is more painful/stiff in the morning when I wake up. It's to the point now where I can't put weight on it. Weird s/e, huh?

Yes, very weird, I agree. I actually took Lexapro for a while, and I've tried its cousin, too (in hopes that the different isomer might not cause the sexual side effects I always have with SSRIs)...I never had the wrist pain with those like I do now, but I do recall being very achy (kind of flu-like) for a few days until I adjusted. So strange how meds affect us all differently....How is the Lexapro working for you?

I'm not totally without sexual side effects. My libido is about 10% of what it use to be due to Efexor.
Efexor at 75mg = Difficulty in achieving orgasm.
Efexor at 150mg = Extreme difficulty & sometimes no orgasm.
Added 15mg of Remeron = Normal Orgasm.
Efexor 225mg + 30mg Remeron = Normal Orgasm.
If my wife asks for sex I can deliver, but I no longer ask for sex, I no longer have any drive to have sex because of Efexor. Remeron also has anti-nausea properties. At 150mg Efexor I had non-stop nausea all day & could barely brush my teeth without gaging. Weight gain: I haven't gained weight yet, but it didn't increase my apetite either, Crazychickuk who posts on this board is on Remeron & is managing to loose weight. I don't think much of Remeron's AD properties, but I think it's an excellent add-on to SSRI's especially if you have sleep problems.

Cheers,
Panda.

Thanks for sharing your experience with these drugs. I am still liking Remeron, although today has been a harder day in comparison to this past week. I guess I should expect tougher days....there's a part of me that would love a quick fix to take away ALL the sad emotions, even when they're warranted....But that's life, right? :>
