SEE Orphan website: (www.orphan.com/articledetail.cfm?aid=3&id=342) article says research to continue concerning excessive daytime sleepiness.

took my med lastnight, feel better today, possibly with cpap I wasn't able to pay back my sleep dept, but with the drug, keeping me in stage 2-4 combined with the cpap, possibly I will be able to pay back the sleep debt. Thanks for all the help.

that's great, thanks for the update. (nm) » rodm

It's approved for narcolepsy, and the FDA has placed it in Schedule III. I wonder how likely it is that doctors will prescribe it off-label, given the media frenzy over GHB. (Narcolepsy is a pretty small market.)

I've been off the board for a while. I take it that you've been diagnosed with a sleep apnea syndrome. Sorry to hear it. What medication are you using? I didn't know that there was any medication for SA.

Anyone here looking at Xyrem as a possible treatment? If so, for what? I've heard it's wonderful for insomnia, but tolerance develops quickly.

I thought it was schedule 1

I read somewhere it was schedule 1, meaning there will never be any off-label prescriptions.

As far as I am concerned it was all a scam, by banning ghb they could, patent ghb under the trade name "Xyrem", then the market belongs to Orphan med. They know what the product is capable of doing, it has a thirty track record. The whole "we will continue to do studies.." Blah Blah.., is to keep the pretense that this is a "BAD" substance, while they laugh all the way to the bank. Anyway all at our expense, because of our medical problems, which they really don't care about, just look at their investers web page. Good links about GHB below.

Following is the information concerning GHB. I did this search because I have a sleep disorder. GHB was banned in 1991 after Clinton signed a bill that proposed GHB to be a date rape drug. GHB was available in health food stores in the US and Europe for thirty years. One month after GHB was banned a company named “Orphan Medical” applied for a license to manufacture GHB under the trade name “Xyrem”. Xyrem is due for release in 2-3 months. Below are some links you will probably find interesting. Let me know what you think…I'm not recommending any of these sites or promoting there oppinions, but it is on the net for you to look at. Proceed with care and know your federal and state laws.

I would be intrested in reading any links you
have that are from established publications,
with footnotes or documentation. Are there
any reproducable studies done on GHB and
the specific condition in nacrolepsy that GHB
treats ? Seems like this would of been studies to
bring this new med on the market.

Over the last few years, GHB has become progressively more popular within the United States as an illegal
substance. This is likely because of the effects that GHB has on the human body. When GHB is taken in the proper
dosage it can have an intoxicating effect. The user will most likely feel an increase in energy, a feeling of affection,
muscle relaxation, and it enhances one’s sexuality. One of the main reasons it is so popular among the club and rave
scene is because of the effect it has on music. Users have repeatedly described that change in volume and tones are
extremely noticeable12.

With these pleasurable effects come the side effects as well. Many people who use GHB experience bad reactions to
the drug, even when taken properly. Some users have experienced nausea, headaches, dizziness, amnesia,
uncontrollable vomiting, respiratory problems, loss of consciousness, or even being conscious but not being able to
move13. These effects are good examples of why GHB is often compared to Rohypnol and associated with date rape
and sexual assault. GHB has been associated with hundreds of sexual assault cases and almost a hundred victims
have tested positive for GHB after being sexually assaulted14.

While there are no true known long-term effects of GHB, it is still an extremely dangerous drug. Many people who
use and abuse the drug will not pay attention to dosage or will mix it with other drugs. GHB is particularly easy to
overdose on if not careful. There is a very fine line between a normal dose and too much. When too much GHB is
taken the user will become tired and will soon be unconscious and begin to vomit. In addition to this, when mixed
with other drugs such as alcohol, GHB can be fatal15.

Many have described GHB as the "sneakiest drug on Earth". This is because of the severe memory loss that the
user suffers while on the drug. Today it can be found in almost every metropolitan area and is known as Georgia
Home Boy, goop, Liquid Ecstasy, Gamma 10, and Gross Bodily Harm. When in an unfamiliar place one should not
accept drinks from strangers and if a drink is salty and/or flat one should be careful, as these are signs of GHB16.

If you do your research you'll learn that 100% pure GHB's only overdose side-effect is very restful sleep. It is a simple amino-acid produced naturally by the body. This sleep, sometimes described to as a non-toxic coma is only obtained by irresponsible use. People are too quick to go the easy route and blame the drug.

Because of money-hungry drug companies they unrightiously forced this drug into schedule I by the DEA.

This is why there are (isolated) side-effects like you described. Since there is now no manditory regulation of the purity of GHB obtained on the streets it is often cut with harmful substances and/or synthesized with alternative chemicals including toxins not intended for human ingestion.

As far as memory loss while on the drug, consider this;

I have been suffering from social anxiety disorder for many years. I have been treated (with drugs perscribed by my doctor) with what seems like a countless amount of different drugs.
Many of these drugs had very undesirable side-effects from weight gain to noticable lowering of congnative skills.

I have used GHB for treatment of my anxiexty and acute depression. It works wonders with the least amount of side-effects.

I would also like to mention that in unbias (unbias being a very important factor) reasearch studies GHB show absolutely no physcial dependency or heightened tolerance with prolonged use.

I am sorry to hear about your dead friend. How did he die, exactly?

Let me further my comments with this... The reason people die; Its called abuse. There are people that dont abuse it. I'm very upset how the FDA portrays the 67 deaths of GHB since 2000. And not one is directly linked to GHB. Other drugs, and incompitant coronors need to be examined. Each year tylenol kills 52,000 people yes,(acetomenophen) sold over the counter. Each year 12,000 people are killed by drunk drivers. 39,000 are killed by lung cancer because of
cigarretes... 300 babies die a year of drowning, 14 people die of lightning strikes. These are all actual statistics.

When alcohol becomes addicting for someone why isnt it scheduled drug? Or deemed evil by the publics eyes?
When cigarettes become addictted why isnt that scheduled?
The government wont sell it as a cure for depression or anxiety but for narcolepsy, because of mass drug competetion. Xyrem which is GHB, the company that makes it, Orphan Medical said GHB is not addictive. Though this is probably true with other ANTI-Anxiety drug ANTI-depressant drug when stopped. People go through withdrawls, have you not been reading the boards???
GHB withdrawls are a mere 2 to 4 days. Paxil withdrawls can last weeks! I know, I've gone through it.

GHB is one of those drugs that's achieved cult status and is now banned more or less worldwide.

i've never tried it but would like to.

it used to be available under the counter in sex shops and at rave parties but that has dried up in my area.

i would not try illegal ghb anyway as it's not possible to guarantee what's in the bottle (and i don't want to go to jail either)

there are instructions for making it on the net but GBL one of the core contstituents has also become illegal to buy.

it used to be available from www.vitalchemistry.com but they no longer advertise it on their site.
