There is one case report in a scandinavian medical journal...a middle aged man with complete anorgasmia (total inability to orgasm) on citalopram (celexa) was able to orgasm by augmenting with cyproheptadine, which I believe is a serotonin antagonist.
Has anyone tried this? Any idea of dosage? Also, do you think that it would interfere with treatment, i.e. make the SSRI less effective?
Any info/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I tried it and it worked pretty well for me...it's
not perfect, but it does help. The only thing is,
you have to do it at night, because it will put you
to sleep, BIG TIME! So you'll have sex and then fall
asleep! My dose was 1 4 mg tablet. It didn't depress
me, but I wasn't using it very often. Like I said, it's
not perfect and it does kind of cut down on spontaneity, but
it DOES help with orgasm and sensation that the SSRI interferes with.

My doctor gave me serzone which also very much helped. He said it works in both men and woman and I found it works great and take anywhere between 50 to 100 milgrams. I hope it helps you.

You take the serzone in addition to the SSRI? When do you take it, every day or a few hours before you want to have sex?
Thanks!

>Hi. Yep I take Serzone once a day, and am down to 50 mg's. I have actually timed it to take it late afternoon, around supper, and for some reason it seems to cover most of my waking hours, and I can have sex anytime with usually very little problem. I had to start with 100mg's though, but once a day seemed to be enough. I don't think anymore than 100mg's once a day is needed, and may be too much as it may cause side effects beyond that. I have no problem having sex any time of the day.
Good luck...and anymore questions, please ask. Marc.

I think I remember this being discussed a couple of years ago, too (cyproheptadine for SSRI induced anorgasmia). I can't remember the brand name, but I *think* the cyproheptadine is a drug that was used for PTSD in combat veterans. I think it also helps with SSRI-induced nightmares.
I may be mistaking it for something else.

I also take Serzone as well as Effexor. The serzone was added to do two main things--add antidepressant effect because although effexor has a good AD effect for me, I could not tolerate higher doses. The second thing is to counteract some of the effexor overactivation, I think by blocking 5HT2 receptors. Too much serotonin stimulation of these receptors I think was causing me to have insomnia, muscle twitching, general restlessness, restless legs, etc.
As far as how it helps with anorgasmia, it helps some, but sexual sensation is more limited and requires more focused effort, and orgasms are still hard to achieve. At night, long after taking effexor, and after the serzone has settled in, it is a little better, but still the experience is more restricted and orgasms are what I call fragmented.
When I used to take ritalin, there was a short window of time when sex/orgasm was a bit better, especially if I took the ritalin and waited on the effexor. Adderall does not do the same thing.

Ritalin helped with my orgasm when I was on prozac. It's been a number of years so I don't remember the dose, but it was the best orgasm remedy I tried. Not 100% but much better. I couldn't tolerate wellbutrin and buspar did nothing. This was before serzone. Sam-e worked for me without sexual side effects until I got this pain condition (no relation to Sam-e) and I took a dive depression-wise. I'm currently on 300 mg of imipramine with NO sexual side effects. It's not, unfortunately, relieving my depression real well, but it's an option to consider. Imipramine is a great drug for a lot of people.
